New Species: Sarcastic Fringehead

The Sarcastic Fringehead

I’d never even heard of the Sarcastic Fringehead before.  Our buddy Vance from the opening weekend trip had some new swimbaits that he picked up at the Fred Hall Show last month.  So when we went shallow (under 100 ft.) yesterday on the Pacific Islander, he gave me one to fish, and we both tried them out for the first time.  I scored a fat cabezon with mine.  Vance hooked into the fringehead.  Looking at this thing, it reminded me of the dinosaur that ate Newman from Seinfeld on Jurassic Park.

Vance unhooked him and let him go.

With a name like that, I had to learn more about this fish.  If pictures are worth 1000 words, videos are worth 10,000.  Check out these 2 videos to learn more about this fascinating SoCal fish.
