Thanks Everyone!

Yesterday SoCalSalty went over 1000 page views.  Today, I will top 100 followers on Twitter.  I started this blog on December 7th and I can’t believe all the doors it has opened already.  I’ve met some really cool people, had some great experiences, and learned a lot from all of it.  In the coming months a lot of great stuff is planned here on the blog.  One of my favorite manufacturers (see Stuff I Use) has invited me out to their factory to take a tour.  I’m fishing with one of my heroes.  And I’m traveling to Austin, Texas to check out one of the coolest new products/companies I’ve seen since I started fishing SoCal.  In the meantime, I wanted to thank some folks who have inspired me, helped me, and who’s work I admire.

Something Fishy Blog

Josh Mann fishes the Outer Banks of North Carolina, one of the top salty fishing spots in the country.  Josh is a Surf Fishing expert and a super cool dude.  Check out his Something Fishy Blog.

Dave and another awesome rooster

Dave Maynard is the host of an awesome new show on Vs Channel called Fish the Baja.  I credit Dave with fueling one of my 2011 fishing goals, catching a monster roosterfish.  I love the bass shows, but Dave is one of the few salty’s on TV!  Check out the show site, and watch the show on Tuesday mornings at 6:30am (Pacific).

Follow @The_Nothing on Twitter

Isaac Miller is an expert kayak fisherman who prowls the Oregon Coast.  He tweets under the handle @The_Nothing, and guest posts on numerous kayaking sites.  Follow him for incredibly detailed information about how to hook up from a yak.

John is a SoCal fishing PRO

John Anjard works the Daily Double out of Point Loma.  We met over an eBay transaction and he’s a great guy with a ton of knowledge (and ALL the associated tackle!) on how to successfully fish SoCal.  Thanks for being a buddy.  I look forward to a bunch of new adventures in 2011.

Fletch is one of my buddies at work.  You know him as a frequent contributor to the blog with great cooking info, including awesome pics…what I fondly call “food porn.”  Thanks Fletch for pushing me beyond my Simple Way To Cook Fish.

Jake the Sculpin Slayer

Most of all, thank you to my son and favorite fishing buddy, Jake.  You inspired (pushed) me to get back on the water and we’re both better off for it!

Thanks also to my family, friends and work colleagues who put up with checking out my pictures, listening to my fish tales, and boiling everything down to a fishing analogy.  Thanks to my Dad for getting me started on this passion.  Thanks to all the local captains, crews and boat regulars that have gotten me started fishing SoCal.  Thanks to Renee and Sarah Kay for inspiring me to start the blog.  And thank you to all of you who come to the blog, comment, email me and generally inspire me to keep it going!

  1. Howdy from Texas and Good going Socalsalty!
Congrats on the 1000 page views and the 100 twitter followers.
I started my site in October but I’m not even close to 1000 page views yet.
Lack of time to write more posts and to add content is my biggest problem right now and new posts is what is mandatory for seeing an increase in traffic.

I hope you will have a safe and enjoyable trip to Austin, Texas.
    What company will you visit?

    • Thanks for stopping by Rick. I’ll definitely check out your site as I’m a complete newb when it comes to kayaking. As far as the Austin company, stay tuned 🙂

  2. Congrats on the 1000 page views! Thanks for the link too , I can’t wait to see what’s next here on SoCalSalty. I guess next you’re shooting for 5000 page views?

  3. Hey SoCal, Congrats on your success with the blog. Good stuff. Keep up the good work 🙂

    • Thanks Capt Paul! You were the first person to comment here that I didn’t already know 😉 Good luck getting to the boat show today!
